Wedding Day Skin Care Preparation

You’ve made it through the fun part of your engagement (admit it: You love snapping all those ring selfies!) and now it’s time to get into the nitty-gritty of looking fantastic for your big day. We’re talking about your wedding beauty plan! We know things can get a little crazy in the months before the event and now is the perfect time put a plan into place to get gorgeous so you can have the best hair, skin, and nails of your life as you make your way down the aisle!

No bride or groom wants to face an unexpected skin emergency right before, or on the day of their wedding, unfortunately this is more common than not. Let’s face it, with everything that goes into planning and pulling off a successful event, weddings can be stressful which in turn can impact our skin as stress weakens the immune system, increases inflammation and can disrupt your sleep all of which can lead to a dull, decidedly un-bridal complexion, not to mention breakouts! Preparation is the way to ensure you and your skin look flawless!

6 Months to 1 Year Before Your Wedding

Set Up an Appointment with Your Esthetician

Not to put too fine a point on it, but flawless skin should probably be one of the top priorities for your wedding day, right up there with securing a stunning venue. And there are two key reasons to get a skin pro in your corner early on: One, they can assess your complexion’s current state way better than you and your trusty magnifying mirror. And two, they can help you devise a strategy for achieving your dream-skin goals, be it softening pesky forehead wrinkles or zapping acne. Some treatments take time—up to several months—and you need to have a game plan.

The best esthetician for your wedding day beauty preparation is one who will work with your budget, your goals, and your skin. But start early and do not go overboard with the treatments especially just prior to your big day since flare-ups post-facials are likely. We would never recommend a bride or groom get a treatment with a new facialist close to his or her wedding date.

Consider Laser Hair Removal

There’s no better excuse than your wedding (and honeymoon!) to treat yourself to Laser Hair Removal. It’s a splurge, yes, but it will be so worth it when shaving your armpits and legs is the last thing on your mind. Depending on where you go, sessions can range from $200 to $350, and you’ll need about 6 to reap the benefits. Planning should be done 9 to 12 months before the wedding as it typically takes six sessions spaced six weeks apart to see permanent results. As for pain, yes there is some discomfort—but it’s minimal and temporary.

If Laser Hair Removal isn’t in your budget, waxing is an inexpensive alternative treatment for the removal of hair that will leave your skin hair-free and smooth without scratchy regrowth or nasty rashes! Not only does wax remove the hair at the root but it also exfoliates the skin, providing ultra smooth, silky results.

We provide professional hair waxing services and an experience that is less painful, and our friendly therapists have a gentle and professional touch. Years of experience, premium wax, and a superior technique make the difference. We also follow the latest safety standards, use only disposable tools and always wear gloves.

TIP: During the summer months your hair will grow faster due to an increase in blood circulation closer to the surface. Many of our clients tend to get waxed more during summer for this reason. If the hair is waxed often enough it can also weaken the follicle and can cause permanent loss of hair.

6 to 9 Months From Your Wedding

Consider a Skin Care Line with Vitamin A

Find a professional skin care brand to use every day, your esthetician will be able to make recommendations on a brand as well as individual skin care products which are best suited for your skin type. The topical products should contain Vitamins A, C, & E as well as antioxidants, peptides, and growth factors. Although every day seems to bring a new must-have “miracle” skin ingredient, few come close to the gold standard in skin care, retinol. Derived from Vitamin A, this tried-and-true ingredient: increases cell turnover, unclogs pores, boosts collagen, and helps diminish hyperpigmentation. Skin needs to become comfortable with increased levels of Vitamin A, and unfortunately many retinol containing skin care products can cause redness and peeling at the onset and before all of these benefits kick in. Environ Skin Care contain a series of products with increasing amounts of Vitamin A, as well as other vitamins and antioxidants that are proven to enhance and improve the look and health of skin but these take time and you must start low and go slow.

Exfoliate

Exfoliation is the removal of dry/dead skin cells on the surface of your skin, and it is one of the most important aspects of your home skin care routine. As dead cells accumulate on the skin, they tend to not only clog pores which contributes to blemishes but they also interfere with light reflection giving it a dull appearance. Regular exfoliation removes dead cells and increases blood circulation and lymphatic flow to improve radiance and can enhance the absorption of skin brightening products through the skin. Regular exfoliation paired with a brightening serum to give you the best lit-from-within glow come your wedding day. We recommend exfoliating once per week initially, and advancing to twice per week after a month or so if you can tolerate it. Products for effective exfoliation include Environ’s Concentrated Alpha Hydroxy Toner, C-Quence Energizing Masque and Alpha Hydroxy Night Cream, for brightening we recommend Tri Peptide Complex+ Avance Elixir.

As any skilled dermatologist or esthetician will tell you, the best skin care strategies are to proactively care for your skin while working to prevent further damage. Follow the regime below every morning and evening combined with the strategies above for optimal results.

4 Months Before Your Wedding

Schedule yourself for a facial each month, for the four month leading up to your day. Your daily home regime is extremely important, but these intensive skin “check-ups” will include professional grade products and tools which combined will enhance  give you incredible professional results.

Dietary changes should also be considered in the months leading up to your big day. We know diet can affect the skin in various ways, and can either help or hurt you in terms of managing the look of your skin. For example. alcohol is a dehydrator, capillary-breaker, and radiance-robber, and excessive consumption is one of the biggest crimes against complexion brides-to-be commit. The skin is the last organ to reap the benefits of ingested vitamins and minerals, thus there is an importance placed on topical skin care as well as eating vitamin-rich and high water-content foods. Leafy greens, avocados, bell peppers, guava fruit, berries, herbs/spices (especially anti-inflammatory spices such as turmeric), and green tea are just a few of the super foods that will enhance the appearance and quality of your skin. Diet and lifestyle are directly connected to optimal skin care.

3 Months Before Your Wedding

Book practice appointments with your hair and makeup professionals. During these practice appointments you can work with your beauty professionals to try and fine turn your ideas to ensure that you love your wedding day look. We suggest booking these for the day of your bridal shower, and/or your bachelorette party to allow you to take advantage of your gorgeous looks and if desired to solicit the opinions of your friends and family.

Purchase maintenance items you may need for your event such as makeup finishing spray, sanitary wipes, oil-blotting pads, and travel-sized products for your honeymoon.

Consider using a conditioning serum for your eyelashes and/or eyebrows, as they typically take 4-8 weeks to produce results and will make your wedding day makeup that much more spectacular.

2 Months Before Your Wedding

If you have uneven skin tone, redness, or bumps on parts of the body such as your bikini area, legs, arms, or chest, use an exfoliating body treatment like Environ’s Dermalac Lotion. This lotion is a light, highly moisturizing lactic acid based body lotion which contains Alpha Hydroxy Acids which help to level and balance the skin while boosting the skins moisture levels. Follow with Environ A, C & E Body Oil and your daily Broad Spectrum SPF Sunscreen.

1 Month Before Your Wedding

Keep up with your skin management practices as the month leading up to you big day is critically important! This regime includes your daily skin care day/night routine, using a broad spectrum SPF sunscreen on your face and neck everyday, getting your monthly facial, making healthy food choices, and using effective body care products. If you plan to add lash extensions or acrylic nails to your bridal look, you should consider scheduling these appointments if you have not already done so. You may also consider implementing an at-home teeth-whitening regime including: Rembrandt Intense Stain Whitening Toothpaste, Crest 3D Glamorous White Mouthwash, and Crest Professional Effects Whitestrips.

1 Week Before Your Wedding

Show up to all of your appointments which may include hair color touch ups or highlights, waxing (hair removal) services, a brightening facial, getting a spray tan, and don’t forget to schedule for both a manicure and a pedicure. A sunless spray tan will even out skin tone, camouflaging any imperfections like stretch marks, scars, redness, and cellulite. It can also be used to contour by defining muscles and sculpting curves. We recommend getting a trial spray tan before your dress fitting to determine how dark you want to go, you might even snap some selfies just to get a sense for how your wedding photos are likely to turn out based on your tone. If you haven’t already started exfoliating your body as suggested above you’ll want to do so at least a week prior to prepare your skin for the spray tan. For spray tanning we recommend our neighbors next door at Bronzed Bunny, they offer Organic Air Brush Tanning and a NEW Client Special of 2 treatment for $60, as well as Onsite Mobile Services.

In addition, to all this we also recommend adding a DIY lip scrub and hand exfoliating routine to your nightly routine. Follow-up with a SPF-containing lip balm and Environ Hand and Nail Cream or Davines Oil Hand Balm.

The Night Before Your Wedding

Do nothing. Relax with a warm bath and some green tea. Afterwards lather your body with your Environ A, C & E Vitamin Enriched Body Oil to enhance your skin’s moisture and glow as well as it’s overall appearance. Follow with your usual nightly skincare routine and be sure to get plenty of restful sleep!

The Day of Your Wedding

Cleanse, tone, moisturize and protect your skin as you usually do. Relax and allow your hair and makeup professionals to do their thing. Give yourself plenty of time, your custom wedding day hair style may take more than an hour depending on how long your hair is and the complexity of the style. Makeup should be done after your hair stylist has completed their efforts and your wedding day makeup services could take up to an hour. Surround yourself with people who will not add to your stress level and be sure to enjoy your day of celebration!

Post-Wedding
