Reveal Radiant, Glowing Skin

A spotless, lineless, flawless complexion is lying just beneath the surface of your skin—and chemical peels are the way there.

With formulations for all skin types – even those with sensitive and higher Fitzpatrick skin types – our medical-grade formulas rejuvenate the skin by gently exfoliating the top layer (epidermis) allowing healthy cells to rise to the surface thereby reducing fine lines and wrinkles, smoothing and brightening, treating dark spots, and clearing breakouts. The rejuvenated skin is visibly tighter and more refined, with reduced pore size.

Our revolutionary formulations provide safer application, a more comfortable treatment (and without the downtime associated with other chemical peels) and added nutrients for increased skin benefits, and faster, more dramatic results.

Our skincare professionals will work with you to create a customized treatment plan for your specific skin needs and help you to understand how to maintain results with advanced home care.

We strongly recommend the post-procedure solution to ensure dramatic results, and care for the skin post-treatment. We also recommend adding a dermaplane treatment (removes the top layer of dead skin thereby enhancing penetration of the peel solution) for $19 to further enhance your results.

What are Chemical Peels?

Chemical peels (also known as chemexfoliation or dermapeeling), are one of the most effective and reliable methods to improve the general health and appearance of the skin.

They repair skin by gently exfoliating the upper layers of damaged skin cells while simultaneously nourishing the underlying healthy skin cells beneath; the result of which is a fresh and youthful complexion. Peels can be especially effective to treat; fine to moderate lines and wrinkles, scarring, pigmentation and sun damage, acne (improving pore size, oil control and addressing stubborn blackheads), rosacea or rough textured skin. Chemical Peels are ideal for hydrating, brightening, and refining the complexion.

During the treatment, a pre-determined quantity of the peel solution is applied to the skin for a specified amount of time. This is dependent on the type of peel, the concentration of the solution, the client’s skin type, and it’s reactivity to the treatment. This solution works by reacting with the upper layer of the skin to efficiently dissolve the bonds that bind surface cells to the dermis, ultimately revealing the more youthful skin underneath. This new skin is smoother with fewer lines and wrinkles, has a more even color and is brighter in complexion. Therefore the goal of a chemical peel is to create a controlled, safe injury to the skin, thereby prompting it to naturally repair itself and reveal newer, brighter skin.

Chemical peels are used to treat a range of skin conditions and are appropriate for nearly everyone. It is a simply a matter of knowing which peel solution is best for your skin type and concerns. Chemical peels are most commonly performed on your face, neck or hands.

What Type of Chemical Peel is Right for Me?

Chemical peels are categorized by how deeply they penetrate the skin: superficial, medium, or deep. The type and depth of chemical peel administered will depend on your skin type, Fitzpatrick type, skin concern, and skincare habits.

Superficial peels penetrate only the uppermost layer of the epidermis. They are often performed in a series to treat fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and mouth. A medium-depth peel is more effective for patients with moderate skin damage, including age spots, freckles, and actinic keratoses. It is often coupled with light therapy treatments to maximize effectiveness.

At PLEIJ we offer a range of chemical peels. If you’re new to chemical peels, or are unsure which peel is right for you, book our Sensi Peel. At your appointment our professional will discuss your desired results along with your previous experiences with chemical peels to help ensure the appropriate peel is selected. They will then work with you to create a customized treatment plan for your skin needs and to help you understand how to maintain results with advanced home care.

As an effective treatment option for most skin types and concerns, they improve tone, texture, fine lines and wrinkles, breakouts and dark spots, but many people are intimidated to go in for their first peel treatment. Here’s in an introduction to our complete range of chemical peels.

Optimizing Results

Your skin goals start with professional treatments.

professional peels

Professionally applied peel solutions exfoliate dead skin cells and help healthy skin cells rise to the surface. These treatments allow deeper layers of fresh and untouched skin to be revealed. The result of monthly treatments can even skin tone, clear acne, improve the appearance of aging skin and make dull complexions glow.

Peels are safe for all skin types, and our certified professionals are trained to identify what treatment combination is safe for each person’s skin in order for patients to reap the greatest benefits. Professional peels are increasingly effective with pre- and post-treatment care, balancing your skin before the peel and nurturing it after the treatment.

pre + post treatment

Using our daily care products in the weeks before your professional treatment is an important step in preparing your skin and ensuring excellent results. Skin that is balanced and healthy will help reduce the risk of complications and lead to better treatment results.

Equally as important, post-treatment products are designed to be used after a chemical peel or other minimally invasive professional treatments to minimize the potential for uncommon side effects. In preparation for your treatment, your professional will evaluate your skin to determine the most effective combination of daily care products for you.

daily care

Along with receiving regular peels, a daily care regimen is critical to achieving and maintaining optimal skin health. Consider the 60:1 analogy: you manage your own skin at least twice a day at home; that’s 60 times in any given month versus a single monthly treatment from a clinician.

The basics for a daily skincare regimen include: cleanse, correct, hydrate and protect. While professional treatments are just as important for the health of your skin, doing your part on a daily basis to improve and maintain the results of those treatments is key.

CHEMICAL PEEL FAQs

The peeling solutions used for chemical peels cause controlled kerato-coagulation (meaning it coagulates) and denaturation of the proteins within the epidermis and dermis, resulting in the release of proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines. This targeted inflammation activates the normal healing signal cascade, including stimulation, development and deposition of new dermal collagen and elastin, reorganization of structural scaffold proteins and dermal connective tissue, and regeneration of new keratinocytes. This results in rejuvenation and thickening of the epidermis and an increase in dermal volume. Simultaneously, the kerato-coagulation and subsequent exfoliation result in improvement in superficial and medium-depth dispigmentation.

While there might be subtle variability between the types of chemical agents used and their intended cosmetic outcome (i.e., reduction of redness vs. dispigmentation vs. scarring), the general goal of a chemical peel is to improve the clinical appearance of skin by decreasing the quantity and quality of rhytides and/or acne scars, reducing inflammatory and noninflammatory acne lesions, improving dispigmentation, and producing an overall more youthful appearance.

Chemical peels can affect two layers of the skin, the epidermis and the dermis. The epidermis is the visible outer layer, and the dermis sits just beneath. While all chemical peels remove a controlled amount of skin cells from the epidermis. A stronger peel may also remove a small part of the dermis.

Before Treatment:

If you’ve started any antibiotics or other medications since your initial visit, please let us know.

1. Refrain from these activities for 7 days prior to your treatment:

a. Do not have another treatment, unless otherwise directed.
b. Avoid any irritants to your skin, including retinoids and retinol, glycolic and salicylic
acids, benzoyl peroxide, astringents and Vitamin C. If you are on these products long
term and have no irritation or redness from these products, please feel free to continue use.
c. Do not wax, tweeze, or use depilatory creams.
d. Avoid artificial tanning and sun exposure 2 weeks prior to scheduled treatment.

2. Do not schedule a procedure if you are pregnant or think you are pregnant.
3. It is recommended to delay use of tretinoin, Retin-A®, Renova®, Differin®, Tazorac®, Avage®, EpiDuo™, Ziana®
and high-percentage AHA and BHA products for approximately five days prior to treatment. Consult your physician before temporarily discontinuing use of any prescription medications. You may continue to use other skincare products, including Lytera® or other lightening agents.
4. On the day of your treatment:

a. Wash your face and apply moisturizer.
b. Do not apply makeup.
c. At home, have Benadryl and aspirin or Tylenol available.
d. Men: Please shave prior to treatment with a straight-edge blade. Shaving cream is acceptable to use.

After Treatment:

Two days post-procedure:

1. Stay cool! Heating internally can cause hyperpigmentation.
2. Do not put the treated area directly into a hot shower spray
3. Do not go into hot tubs, steam rooms or saunas.
4. Do not go swimming.
5. Do not participate in activities that would cause excessive perspiration.
6. Do not use loofahs or other means of mechanical exfoliation.
7. Do not direct a hair dryer onto the treated area.
8. Do not apply ice or ice water to the treated area.

General guidelines:

After receiving a PCA SKIN® professional treatment, you should not necessarily expect to ‘peel’. However, light
flaking in a few localized areas for several days is typical. Most patients who undergo these treatments have residual
redness for approximately one to twelve hours post-procedure.

1. As with all peels and treatments, it is recommended that makeup not be applied the day of treatment, as it is ideal
to allow the skin to stabilize and rest overnight; however, makeup may be applied 15 minutes after the treatment
if desired.
2. To minimize side effects and maximize results use the Post-Procedure Products for three to five days or until
flaking has resolved.
3. If the skin feels tight, apply ReBalance for normal skin types or Silkcoat® Balm for drier skin types to moisturize
as needed. For maximum hydration, you can apply Hydrating Serum under ReBalance or Silkcoat® Balm.
4. Moisturizer should be applied at least twice a day but can be applied more frequently for hydration and to
decrease the appearance of flaking.
5. It is recommended that other topical, over-the-counter medications or alpha hydroxy acid products not be applied
to the skin seven days post procedure, as they may cause irritation.
6. It is recommended to delay use of tretinoin, Retin-A®, Differin®, Renova®, Tazorac®, Avage® EpiDuo™ or Ziana®
seven days post-procedure. Consult your physician before temporarily discontinuing use of any prescription
medications.
7. Avoid direct sun exposure and excessive heat. Use Weightless Protection SPF 45, Perfecting Protection SPF 30,
Protecting Hydrator SPF 30 or Hydrator Plus SPF 30 for broad-spectrum UV protection.
8. Do not go to a tanning bed for at least two weeks post-procedure. This practice should be discontinued due to
the increased risk of skin cancer and signs of aging.
9. Do not pick or pull on any loosening or peeling skin. This could potentially cause hyperpigmentation.
10. Do not have electrolysis, facial waxing or use depilatories for approximately seven days.
11. Do not have another treatment until your clinician advises you to do so.

As the solution is applied to your skin, you will experience some minor, brief discomfort, similar to a sunburn. Depending on the depth of your peel and your individual skin type, comfort measures are available to ease any subsiding discomfort.

TYes. Chemical Peels have been used for years. Timeless is a highly-trained, physician-led practice and we pay close attention to both skin type and area of concern prior to performing the treatment.

After your skin is properly cleansed, a variety of topical solutions are selected for your skin type and concern. These solutions are then layered on the skin to target and achieve the appropriate peel depth to reach your personal skin care goals.

While most all skin types can be treated with chemical peels, we take special care to ensure this treatment is also safe for sensitive skin and higher Fitzpatrick skin types. It is an effective treatment for a variety of skin concerns, including smoothing fine lines and wrinkles, treating acne, brown spots and pores. If you are hoping for a youthful, healthy, and radiant appearance, a chemical peel is for you.

Chemical Peels are a great option for anyone desiring smoother, deeply hydrated skin with a quick turnaround. It is generally recommended to receive a Chemical Peel once a month, however, the frequency of treatment will depend upon the current status of your skin, and your skin related goals.

For improving the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, oily and acne prone skin and hyperpigmentation, a monthly treatment plan is recommended. Your esthetician will provide specific guidance on recommended frequency and duration to address your skin related concerns.

Chemical Peels are also an excellent seasonal treatment performed in the fall/winter to restore skin’s health and undo the UV damage  done over the summer.

After one treatment, the majority of patients notice an immediate improvement in their skin’s texture, firmness, and radiance. A series of 3 treatments are needed for optimal effects including wrinkle reduction, hyperpigmentation, radiance, texture, and acne. After that a maintenance program is essential to maintain the skin health effects and your professional can assist you with a custom plan. For these reasons we offer Chemical Peels in packages of 3 and 6 treatments to ensure the best results.

Chemical Peels can treat and diminish a variety of skin imperfections such as fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, brown spots and hyperpigmentation. It also helps with oily and acne prone skin, large and congested pores, as well as dull, dry skin. At the same time it achieves an overall uniform complexion and healthy and glowing skin.

The results gained by a chemical peel will depend on the type, frequency of the peel, and your skin type.

Side effects can vary depending on the chemical peel formula. However, most patients can expect to see redness, peeling, and flaking. More aggressive chemical peels will lead to intense peeling and flaking for the first two weeks after the initial treatment. It’s important for patients to wear sunscreen and to stay out of the sun in the weeks after their peel.

It is not suitable for anyone who is suffering from an active skin infection such as herpes simplex (cold sores). We also cannot perform it on anyone with a history of irregular skin healing and those who have taken isotretinoin (Roaccutane) within the last 6 months.

After treatment, the face will feel tight and appear red, similar to a mild sunburn. Depending on the type of peel, some patients experience peeling 3 to 5 days after treatment. Our pre and post-care support allow us to monitor your progress every step of the way.
