What is Functional Diagnostic Nutrition®?
Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® (FDN) is a whole-person process of successfully getting to the root causes of symptoms from chronic stress through self-care and natural protocols in diet, rest, exercise, supplements, and stress reduction. It allows us to identify mal-function at the sub-clinical level before dis-ease has a chance to present itself. Dis-ease is indicative of a failure of the body’s homeostatic mechanisms, that is a disruption or imbalance in the natural state of ease. FDN protocols are potent, proven, professional and individualized to build health!

What Health Issues does Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® Address?
Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® (FDN) is a fundamental way of looking at health that avoids diagnosing and treating disease, and instead helps each client “rebuild health”, allowing us to help just about anybody in any condition, including ourselves. We are extremely confident in our ability to help almost every client.

How do you know what is going on with my body?
By running baseline diagnostic labs, reviewing your medical history, and lifestyle habits, the results give me a picture of how your body is functioning. All body systems are interdependent; therefore if something isn’t functioning properly, it is causing other systems to mal-function. Symptoms may or may not be connected to the mal-functioning area, but provide clues to the investigation.

How will I know if my Nourish Balance Thrive program is working?
You will see and feel the difference however, retesting will occur to provide data on how your body is responding to your customized protocol. Adjustments will also be made based on symptom relief and how you are feeling as you work through your program. Adjusting the program is part of the process—that is why follow-ups are so important.

Why are there so many forms to fill out?
Each form is aligned to specific functions of the body. It is important to get a thorough understanding of a client’s health history.

What is the best method to return the new client paperwork?
Please scan or fax your paperwork to the office at 614.555.1234, or you may email it to [email protected]. We cannot accept any pictures of documentation taken via cell phones.

How long will it take me to heal?
Symptoms may begin lessening within the first twelve days, but healing takes time. Healing programs can range from a couple of months, to a year, maybe two. A rule-of-thumb is that it takes a month of treatment for every year the illness has been present. This holds roughly true in simple cases of chronic illness resulting from clear stress factors. In cases of chronic illness due to a longstanding predisposition the length of treatment will frequently be longer.

Healing times are also dependent on your commitment to heal and your dedication to your program. The more committed you are the greater the results you will experience.

The father of medicine, Hippocrates, said “Healing is a matter of time, but it is sometimes also a matter of opportunity.” Take this opportunity to give yourself the time you need to heal.

Do I have to see you in person?
No, consults can be done over the phone, Skype, or Face Time

Where do our sessions take place?
Sessions take place via telephone, Skype, or Face time.

How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions is dependent on what work needs to be done. Reaching optimal health is a journey and requires lifestyle changes. A minimum time frame would be 6 months.

Do you take insurance?
We do not handle insurance due to their being so many types of plans. It is up to the client to work with their insurance company for reimbursements.

How much should I budget for your services?
We can only suggest ballpark figures–there is no “one-size-fits-all” approach and rather each plan is tailored to the client’s specific needs. Generally speaking, one may budget $150-$200/mo in supplements; $1,000 in functional testing; and $600/mo in consulting fees. We do provide discounted packages for those whose conditions are more severe that require a long-term solution.

What types of lab tests are required?
Depending on you health challenges and on the type of test, the samples required are saliva, urine or stool and blood. Most tests can be completed by the client through easy test kits that are self-administered in the comfort of your own home. If blood testing is required we will provide additional instructions as well as lab location information.

How often are the tests run?
Generally, follow-up testing is done every 3 months.

What laboratories do you use? And why?
We have learned over many years that the accuracy of your lab findings and the quality of the professionals performing the lab tests is the key to uncovering the source of your health related issues. Quality is not equal across all lab companies. Many times we see “normal” test results from regular lab companies and our lab tests find many “functional” problems. The lab companies we use have the highest testing standards and the most consistent lab results year after year. These are not replacements for regular medical tests, these tests are only used to detect “functional” issues rather than medical problems and aren’t meant to diagnose or recommend protocols for diseases. We are attempting to detect problems with the functioning of organ systems prior to the onset of a disease.

Will I have to take supplements forever?
The main role of supplements is to support the body’s function and to supply it with the nutrients it requires to function optimally. This is especially important while we work to help the body heal, recover and detoxify. It’s incredibly difficult to get all of the nutrients your bodies requires from food alone and you may choose to take certain supplements for maintenance after the healing processes are complete.

Do I need to purchase supplements directly from you or can I buy these from a third party provider?
We carry only the highest quality supplements which are tested for potency, formulated to achieve the best results in the right specified dosages, and do not include any binders / fillers . If you want to do your own research on different supplements, we welcome you to do so but we do not provide any other recommendations nor advise on other specific blends or brands. If you purchase other supplements from other manufacturers, please research carefully. Not all ingredients are equal.

What is Metabolic Typing®?
There is no one diet that is right or healthy for everyone; there are no good or bad foods except in terms of one’s individual metabolism and food tolerances. Getting the right macro-nutrient ratios at each meal is just as important as getting the right foods. Metabolic Typing is a process of identifying one’s personal biochemistry required to unfold full genetic potential and achieve optimal health.

Should I consult my doctor before working with you?
If you are under the care of a doctor, absolutely. It is important to always check with your physician before making any changes to your physical activity and diet.

What if I am already taking prescription drugs for my symptoms?
It is important to continue to take your medication and continue to follow-up with your doctor as you work on your customized health empowerment plan. One goal might be to become healthy enough to reduce or eliminate the medications.

What is the Terms of Service Agreement?
The Terms of Service Agreement is a legal document that lets you know that our professionals are FDN Practitioners, not doctors. They use diagnostic information to educate and recommend nutritional/lifestyle changes to reach optimal health. They do not diagnose disease.
