What Is a Blowout

SO WHAT IS A BLOWOUT?

You’ve probably heard the term from a colleague, friend or family member and may have thought to yourself… “Is a blowout just blow drying your hair?”. While blowout hair treatments have been around for decades, the definition of a blowout has evolved with the rise of blow dry bars.

In its simplest form, a blowout is the art of drying your hair after a wash into the desired style. The services is designed to help you maintain healthy, styled hair in between haircuts and colors. With a blowout, we can create curly hair, straight hair or subtle waves without any curling or flat iron involved. No matter which style you go for, you’ll achieve a beautiful, stylish look and feel amazing!

How does a blowout work?

Here are the 7 basic steps we take in delivering our signature blowouts:

(1)  Thoroughly shampoo and condition your hair combined with a relaxing scalp massage followed by a cool rinse (helps to seal the hair cuticle which enhances the health of the hair and increases shine)
(2)  After your hair is cleaned, and towel dry remove excess moisture
(3) Apply treatment(s) to condition, protect, and detangle your hair before the blowout
(4) Next, section the hair using hair clips to separate strands without leaving impressions
(5) Then with our Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryers and round ceramic (hold heat from the dryer and transfers it to the hair) and/or boar bristle brushes, we work to minimize frizz and achieve the style of your choice
(6) Next the “cool shot” to set your hair, locking in style and shine
(7) Once your hair is in the right shape, your stylist will use our professional, high-quality hair care products to add the finishing touches and ensure dimension, texture and long-lasting hold.

Add additional dimension and curl with hot styling tools to achieve the style you want, as well as repair and reconstructive treatments for the hair and scalp.

Looking at hair type, scalp condition, and your desired look, we customize the haircare and styling products to best suit you! Every service is tailored specifically to your hair and we make sure each client leaves feeling and looking amazing.

How long does a blowout last?

A blowout is designed to last for several days, and depending on your hair texture and thickness, you can expect your blowout to keep its shape for 3-5 days. Those with more textured hair can expect longer hold times, while those with finer hair may require a little more maintenance to last.

Once you get into a regular routine with blowouts, you’ll find your hair becomes more adaptable and manageable allowing you to go longer between appointments. Regular blowouts also allow us to assist you with many hair and/or scalp related concerns, thus allowing us to improve the overall health and integrity of your hair.

If you wish to extend the life of your blowouts, here are some simple tips to follow:

•  Sleep on a satin pillowcase to avoid morning bed-head.
•  Wear a shower cap when showering.
•  Avoid activities that make you sweat excessively.
•  Blast your roots with a hairdryer to freshen up your blowout.
•  Use dry shampoo to absorb excess oils from the scalp.

Why do people get blowouts regularly?

Why not?!? But seriously, the question is really WHO is taking advantage of professional styling? You might chose to leave it to the professionals if you:

  • struggle with the thickness, or texture of your hair
  • simply do not have the time, desire, or proficiency to effectively wash and style your hair (if you walk out of the salon saying, “I wish I could do my hair like s/he (your hair stylist) does!!” you’re the perfect candidate for blowouts)
  • want a polished manageable style that lasts
  • just want to be free from having to worry about your hair everyday
  • are facing hair and/or scalp issues such as oily scalp or heat damaged hair (we are always willing to advise you in the health of your hair!)

The biggest thing about a blowout is how it makes you feel. I personally love being in the shop and watching women come in with their hair in a bun, very serious, and they walk out with a pep in their step. It’s the transformation. A great blowout, and great hair, can really change your day and make your feel good about yourself.

That’s the magic of a blowout and what we do, we make women’s days a little bit brighter with great hair! When our hair looks good, we feel really good.

Can women with short hair get blowouts?

Absolutely. We have a lot of women with short hair who come in and we actually have a style for it called, Hot Toddy. There are a lot of women with shorter length hair who come in because—let’s face it—if you can’t do your hair, you can’t do your hair. I could also make the argument that short hair is even harder to maintain and deal with. Long hair can be messy and tousled and kind of look okay. Short hair can be more challenging, so we see a lot of women with short hair and shoulder length hair.”

How does a professional blowout differ from what I do at home?

It’s really hard to do your own hair and not just because you’re not a professional stylist, or you don’t know how to do hair. It’s more about the angle. When you watch our blowouts being done, we’re standing above your head, working with very small sections and perfecting each section before we move onto the next. You physically can’t do that when you’re doing your own hair.

When we do our own hair at home, our hands are over our heads, we get tired and our arms begin to hurt. We aren’t perfecting every section, making sure that every section is fully dry and perfectly styled before we move onto the next. Frankly, nobody has the time either. We get asked all the time by clients and the media for tips, and I say, allot 35 to 40 minutes to do your hair. People look at me like I’m crazy, and say, ‘I do my hair in 15 minutes, and then I’m out the door.’ Well, if we did your hair in 15 minutes, it wouldn’t look great either. It’s about taking the time and perfecting each section.

Does a blowout damage my hair?

All of our stylists are professionally trained and use premium styling devices to ensure that your hair doesn’t incur damage from our blowout treatments. A hairdryer will never get as hot as other styling tools, such as flat or curling irons, devices which significantly increase the risk of heat damage. Furthermore, we use controlled techniques and professional styling products to protect your locks and minimize frizz.

While any heat can eventually cause some damage to hair over time, regular blowouts can actually reduce damage when compared to the daily use of a different heat styling product.

Can I get a blowout with extensions?

Yes, of course! Our premium hair extensions consist of the finest virgin hair and are designed to blend seamlessly with your own natural tresses and therefore, they can be treated as such. Our hair extension stylists are experts and trained to give you a perfect blowout with or without extensions!
