Stressed cells (cells exposed to toxins in the foods we eat, water we drink, air we breath, products we put on our bodies, as well as things like poor diet and nutrient deficiencies, excess UV Radiation and EMFs) produce nitric oxide (NO), which binds to cytochrome c oxidase and halts the production of ATP. PRP is a non-surgical based therapy for natural hair follicle stimulation for thinning hair.

Human blood contains Platelet Rich Plasma, or PRP. Inside these Platelets are many intracellular structures that promote growth including:

• Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF)—promotes blood vessel growth, cell replication, skin formation;
• Transforming Growth-Factor-Beta (TGF-b)—promotes growth of matrix between cells, bone metabolism;
• Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF)—promotes blood vessel formation;
• Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)—promotes cell growth and differentiation, blood vessel formation, collagen formation;
• Fibroblast Growth Factor-2 (FGF-2)—promotes growth of specialized cells and blood vessel formation; and,
• Insulin Like Growth Factor – (IGF)—a regulator of normal physiology in nearly every type of cell in the body

These special platelet cells contain essential and specific growth factors that assist in tissue regeneration, promote healing and the formation of new cellular growth. PRP has been proven to effectively encourage hair growth by stimulating the stem cells and other cells in the micro-environment of the hair follicle. The primary purpose in using PRP in hair restoration is to stimulate inactive or newly implanted hair follicles into an active growth phase.

During the treatment, a technician draws your blood and spins it in a centrifuge to separate out the platelets and plasma, concentrating the PRP to 3x the normal blood levels. An anesthesia block is then applied to those areas of the scalp which are to receive treatment. The physician then injects the the highly concentrated PRP into the scalp where the hair loss has occurred which helps repair blood vessels, promote cell growth and wound healing, and stimulate follicle activation.

Injections are typically administered monthly for three months, then spread them out over about three or four months for up to two years. The injection schedule will depend on your genetics, pattern and amount of hair loss, age and hormones.

PRP therapy works better if your hair loss is recent. It typically takes about three months to see an improvement. After that time, most patients – both male and female – have regrown 30 to 40 percent of the hair they’ve lost.
